When the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change meets in Copenhagen in December there are a number of crucial questions on the table that will ultimately determine the future direction of the shipping industry.

But once the power politics, the finance and the vested interests are stripped away, there appears to be one key principle at stake: if measures are not applied to all ships, irrespective of flag, the ultimate goal of reducing CO2 emissions from shipping will not be achieved.
