SOUTH Korea’s Eukor Car Carriers has confirmed that, unlike many of its competitors, it is sticking with its original newbuilding plans and has not cancelled any of the car carrier orders it placed before the dramatic crash in the automotive markets. Having taken delivery of four new vessels in 2009, Eukor has 11 more vessels due for delivery up to the end of 2013.

Delivery drive Neptune gets second carrier

PIRAEUS-based Neptune Lines will today take delivery of the second in a series of six car carrier newbuildings ordered from the Hyundai Mipo yard. The 11,361 dwt Neptune Ithaki , which will be deployed on routes in the Mediterranean and Black Sea, is a sister to the Neptune Kefalonia , which was handed over to the Greek operator last October.

NYK boosts its service network

OVER the past nine months, NYK Line has added three new services to its global car carrier network. A Europe to west coast South America service is now operating on a monthly basis, carrying new cars to Chile and Peru for well-known manufacturers. NYK has also introduced a twice-monthly service connecting Europe and Central America. This operation, similarly based on new car contracts, involves transhipment in either Baltimore or Panama.
